Sara Ray Sara Ray joined the UW Office of Academic Support in March of 2011. Ray is the academic coordinator for soccer, tennis, and swimming and diving as well as the coordinator for the tutor program. Prior to joining the Office of Academic Support, Ray worked as a Senior Instructional Specialist in the Office of Student-Athlete Development at Arizona State University from 2009-2010, working mainly with the sports of football and women's basketball, in addition to other teams. Ray also served as a volunteer assistant coach for Grand Canyon University Volleyball during the 2010 season and was a coach for Club Red in 2010 and Arizona Volleyball Academy in 2009. From 2007-2008, Ray worked as a graduate assistant coach for the University of Wyoming Volleyball team. She was a defensive specialist/libero for the Cowgirls from 2003-2006 and was voted president of the UW Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and chairperson for the Mountain West Conference her senior year. During her collegiate coaching and playing years combined, she has been a member of four teams to earn American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) team academic honors, in 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2008. Originally from Windsor, Colorado, Ray earned her Bachelor of Arts in Communication from UW in 2006 and proceeded to earn her Master of Arts in Communication in 2010. Ray is married to Michael Ray, a Wyoming football player from 2004-2008, who now serves as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Cowboys. They have a son, Jordan.
Patty Holgorsen Patty Holgorsen remains a member of the UW Office of Academic Support staff after a year of graduate assistantship working with Football and Men's & Women's Golf, and now taking on the role of full-time academic coordinator for these sports. As a graduate assistant, Holgorsen oversaw the growing mentor program for all incoming freshman student-athletes, distributing progress reports twice each semester, and advised several student-athletes, as well as assisting with various administrative tasks. Being such an integral part of these sport programs already makes for a smooth transition into her new role. A former student-athlete at Carthage College, competing in women's basketball, Holgorsen transferred to the University of Wyoming to graduate with a B.S. in Kinesiology (2008). During her time at UW, Holgorsen worked as an assistant head girls' basketball coach at Estes Park High School for the 2007-08 season, as well as running several girls' basketball sport clinics each summer from 2004 through 2008. Holgorsen rounded out her undergraduate experience as a research assistant for Dr. Brandon Alderman (2008). Following her undergraduate degree, Holgorsen pursued an M.S. at Michigan State University in Kinesiology, with concentrations in Psychosocial Aspects of Sport & Exercise, Student-Athlete Development and Sport Administration (2011).
Marie Tyrrell Marie Tyrrell joined the UW Office of Academic Support in July of 2011. She serves as the Academic Coordinator for the volleyball and men's and women's track/cross country teams. Prior to joining OAS, Tyrrell served as Assistant Academic Coordinator for the football and men's tennis teams at North Carolina State University. In addition to that role, she also worked with NC State's Eligibility Coordinator to organize and monitor the initial and continuing eligibility of the student-athletes for all teams. Prior to NC State, Tyrrell spent five years as an undergraduate and graduate student at Michigan State University. While at Michigan State, she served in multiple roles in Student-Athlete Support Services, including tutor, mentor, and Assistant Academic Coordinator for women's crew. Tyrrell earned a B.S. in Sociology from MSU in 2009 and went on to earn an M.S. in Kinesiology (Student-Athlete Development concentration) in 2010.
Courtney Smith Courtney Smith joined the UW Office of Academic Support in the fall of 2010 as a graduate assistant who oversees the Student-Athlete Affairs program and the S.A.D.D.L.E. Cup competition. In addition, she serves as a learning supervisor for the tutoring program and assists with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Smith attended South Dakota State University for her undergraduate work in Mass Communications, receiving her degree in 2008. In college, Smith was a member of the South Dakota State University Varsity Equestrian Team from 2006-2008. Smith is currently pursuing a master's degree in School Counseling at the University of Wyoming.
Jamie Pond Jamie Pond has joined the Office of Academic Support staff as a Graduate Assistant beginning Fall 2011. She worked as a tutor and mentor during the spring of 2011, which helped lead her to the OAS as a graduate assistant. Pond, a 2011 graduate of UW in Communication, will pursue her Master's degree in Communication at UW. As an undergrad, she was an active member in the Wyoming Student Alumni Association, was a teaching assistant for Dr. Tracey Patton and did her internship with the Laramie Colts Mountain Collegiate Baseball team. Pond, born and raised in Laramie, is no stranger to Cowboy Football as her grandfather is a former Cowboy and former employee of UW Athletics.
Ryan McGinn Ryan McGinn joined the Office of Academic Support as a Graduate Assistant in January of 2012. McGinn received an undergraduate degree from Southern Virginia University in History with a minor in Business Management and Leadership in 2011. He will pursue his Master's degree in History at UW beginning in the fall of 2012. While at Southern Virginia McGinn competed in football, was a member of the Phi Alpha Theta History Honors Society and the Chi Epsilon Omega Business Honors Society. He is married to the former Brynn Hansen. McGinn was born on June 27 in Ft. Worth, Texas. |
