At Wyoming: Junior - Birks helped lead the UW 800 freestyle relay team to a second place finish and was also a member of the 200 and 400 medley relay teams that both finished third at the 2005 MWC Championships. He was also a member of the 400 freestyle relay team that placed fourth at the championships. Individually, he placed sixth in the 200 butterfly and fourth in the 100 butterfly. He was named First Team All-MWC in the 800 freestyle relay and Second Team in the 100 butterfly and the 200 and 400 medley relays. He was named the MWC Swimmer of the Week on Nov. 10, 2004 after leading the Cowboys to a dual win over Denver. He earned his third letter award. He became a two-time Academic All-MWC selection. Sophomore - He won the 100 butterfly at the 2004 MWC Championships, setting a new school record in the process. He was a member of the second place, and school record setting, 200 medley relay team. He also swam on the second place 400 medley relay team, as well as the 800 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay teams. Individually, he placed fourth in the 100 freestyle and fifth in the 200 butterfly at the 2004 MWC Championships. Freshman - He made an immediate impact after beginning to compete for the Cowboys half way through the 2002-03 season. He placed fifth in the 100 butterfly at the 2003-04 MWC Championships and was a member of the 800 freestyle relay team which placed second. Personal: Born November 8, 1982 in Brisbane, Australia.
