Bretting will enter his first season as the diving coach for the University of Wyoming diving program. Bretting returns to UW after completing an exceptional diving career for the Cowboys from 2003-2007.

As an athlete at the University of Wyoming, Bretting became just the fifth diver in Wyoming history to compete in the NCAA Swimming and Diving National Championships. He qualified for nationals at the 2007 Zone meet and went on to place in the top-25 in the nation in all three diving events at the NCAA Championships. Because of his success on the national stage, he was voted the Most Outstanding Student-Athlete by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee at the University of Wyoming. Bretting was also a four-time First Team All-MWC performer and holds the second-highest 3-meter score in Wyoming diving history.

In the classroom, Bretting also had success. He was named an NCAA Academic All-American as presented by the College Swimming Coaches Association and was an Academic All-Conference and MWC Scholar Athlete all four years of his career. Bretting also was honored with Academic All-District VII as presented by CoSIDA and ESPN the Magazine in 2006 and 2007. At the conclusion of his career, he was awarded the Admiral S. Land award, one of the most prestigious awards presented to student-athletes at the University of Wyoming.

Prior to coaching at Wyoming, Kevin had been establishing himself as a committed health and fitness professional. He holds a B.S. in Kinesiology and Health Promotion from the University of Wyoming and is a member of and a certified personal trainer with the American College of Sports Medicine. Over the years, Kevin has been coaching diving at many locations and programs, from the Loveland Boardworks Dive Club, to the Estes Park Middle School and High School programs, and most recently as the diving coach at Mountain View High School in Loveland, CO, where he is from.

In June of 2009, Kevin married his wife, Tamara, from Littleton, CO. Tamara was also an excellent student-athlete at the University of Wyoming and was a member of the Swimming and Diving team from 2004-2007. She is currently a high school chemistry teacher and the assistant swimming coach at Laramie High School.
