Senior Fischer And Sophomore Griffel Win Individual Conference Titles For UW

Freshman-(2010-11): Calhoon had an excellent freshman season for the Cowboys. He recorded three top-10 finishes at the Mountain West Championships. He placed fifth in the 400 individual medley at the conference championships and placed sixth in the 1650 freestyle. Calhoon also took eighth place in the 200 back at the MW Championships. His top-10 finishes at conference earned him All-MW honors in the 400 IM and 1650 free. The 200 back and 1000 free were his strongest events throughout the season, recording two first-place finishes in each event. In the 200 back he placed first in the Nebraska-North Dakota triangular and against Utah. In the 1000 free he recorded two firsts against BYU and the Hawaii-UC-San Diego triangular. He earned his first letter award as a Cowboy.

High School: Calhoon was named All-State swimmer at the state meet and was a member of the two-time state 4A champions. He was named his team's Most Valuable Player all four years in high school. Calhoon was selected captain of his swim team his sophomore, junior and senior years. He also was named All-America his junior and senior years, as well as Academic All-American his senior year. Calhoon was a two-time Junior National qualifier in his high school career. In the classroom, Calhoon graduated as a member of the National Honor Society.

Personal: He was born Oct. 12, 1991 in Bend, Ore. He is the son of James and Junia, and has one sibling, Justine Calhoon. He is majoring in animal and veterinary sciences at Wyoming.
