Cowgirl Swimming and Diving Left in Northern Arizona's Wake
Feb. 2, 2001 LARAMIE, Wyo. -
Hoping to build momentum for the upcoming Mountain West Conference Championships, the Wyoming Cowgirl swimming and diving team stumbled in its final dual meet of the season. UW fell to Northern Arizona at Corbett Pool 121-103 Friday night in Laramie. The Cowgirls were only able to win four events against the Lumberjacks, which included two individual events and both relays. Sophomore Jody Riskowski won the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.90 while sophomore Angie Sax took the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:09.00. "I'm immensely disappointed with the way we swam tonight," said UW head coach Tom Johnson. "They just have to get hungry. I told them last week that they had to get hungry and they are just not doing that. We really need to dig deep and prepare ourselves mentally for the conference meet which is less than two weeks away. We got beat by a team tonight who we really should've beat with no problem, but give them credit for travelling all day and coming into our place and handing it to us." Johnson said. Wyoming picked up second-place finishes in the 200 free from sophomore Allison Schmid, the 100 free from Riskowski, the 200 back from freshman Lauren Bush and the 200 breast from freshman Crystal Mecham. The loss dropped the Cowgirls' overall season record to 8-3, 3-2 in the
Mountain West Conference. Wyoming will now concentrate on the MWC
Championships which begins Feb. 14.
