Alumni vs. Varsity Meet
Oct. 6, 2000 LARAMIE, Wyo. -
Wyoming head swimming coach Tom Johnson resurrected the Alumni vs. Varsity meet this season. The last time this meet was held was in 1996.
The meet matched current Wyoming varsity swimmers and divers against former Cowboy and Cowgirl letterwinners. To even out the teams, the alumni team was stocked with current UW freshman. The varsity dominated the meet, winning 20 of the 22 events. Seventeen meet records were also broken during the course of competition. Sophomore Missy Lewis won two events, the 50 free and 50 breast to lead all varsity swimmers. Freshman Lauren Bush, who swam for the alumni, had an impressive debut for the Cowgirls winning both the 100 and 200 free. Other individual winners for the Cowgirls were Auburn transfer Mabry Fiddler in the 100 IM, sophomore Angie Sax in the in the 50 fly and sophomore Jody Riskowski in the 50 back. In diving sophomore Lauren Colaric swept both the one and three-meter events. Colaric transferred to Wyoming this year from Auburn. Senior Buddy Boysen and sophomore Jake Weidert were the top Cowboy performers, both winning two events. Boysen won the 100 IM and the 50 fly and Weidert won the 200 free and the 50 breast. Senior Jason Garman won the 50 free and junior Jake Rehard won the 100 free. Junior Oscar Delgado swept the diving events. "This was a real fun meet for our athletes and was a great way to get
the season started," said UW head coach Tom Johnson. "I was very
pleased with our performances and feel with more work we'll only get
stronger."
