LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The University of Wyoming men's and women's swimming and diving teams picked up their first dual victory of the 2000-2001 season by defeating Metro State University at Corbett Pool in Laramie, Saturday.

Both teams had no trouble against the Roadrunners, cruising to easy victories. The Cowboys won by a score of 126-62 while the Cowgirls defeated Metro 131-34.

Sophomore diver Lauren Colaric qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships by recording a winning score of 277.80 on the three-meter springboard. Her score was third best on the three-meter (six-dives) in UW history. Colaric also won the one-meter with a score of 264.3.

Freshman Katie Haywood also won two events for the Cowgirls, taking first in the 100 free (55.08) and the 200 free (2:00.97).

Four Cowboys won multiple events leading the men to the team victory. Junior Oscar Delgado won the one-meter (274.125) and the three-meter (268.35), junior Guy Fulfer won the 100 free (48:03) and the 200 free (1:47.25), sophomore Damian Storz won the 500 free (4:46.88) and the 1000 free (10:02.76) and sophomore Jake Weidert won the 200 IM (2:00.03) and the 200 fly (1:56.89.)

"I thought the team swam well today," UW head coach Tom Johnson said. "I thought the times were very good for where we are in the season. The meet wasn't very competitive between the two teams, but I thought the competition level within our own team was very high.

"I was pleased with the teams effort. We've been training very hard and we even practiced before the meet today. Seeing the results we did was very satisfying." Johnson said.

The Wyoming swimming and diving team will take some time off from competition before traveling travel Denver, Colo., Nov. 17. The women will compete against Denver University, North Texas and Northern Colorado while the men will only compete against Denver.
