Swimming Competes at Husky Invitational
Dec. 4, 2000 LARAMIE, Wyo. - Head Coach Tom Johnson took a small squad of Wyoming swimmers to the 53rd annual Husky Invitational in Seattle, Wash., this past weekend, Dec. 1-3. The invite was attended by 30 women's and 33 men's teams with the majority of the them being high school level club teams. In the collegiate division, the UW women placed fourth behind host Washington, the University of Nevada and the University of Puget Sound. The Wyoming men placed second behind Washington. UW's overall team scores would have been higher but they did not stay to compete in the finals late Sunday evening. Sophomore Damian Storz had an outstanding meet, placing first in the 400 IM (4:01.94), second in the 200 IM (1:54.93) and second in the 1000 free (9:23.45). Storz' time in the 1000 free was the third best time in that event in UW history. Other top ten finishers for the Cowboys were senior Al Jarrell who placed fifth in both the 200 IM (1:55.80) and the 400 IM (4:07.36), sophomore Jake Weidert was fourth in the 400 IM (4:06.63) and ninth in the 200 IM (1:56.68), junior Guy Fulfer placed third in the 200 free (1:41.45), senior Jason Garman placed eighth in the 50 free (21.49), senior Buddy Boysen finished eighth in the 100 back (54.52) and sophomore Ted Dibble placed tenth in the 200 free (1:44.45). The Cowgirls only had two top ten finishers, sophomore Angie Sax and
sophomore Mabry Fiddler. Sax placed fifth in the 100 fly with a time of
57.45 and Fiddler placed eighth in the 400 IM with a time of 4:32.25.
Fiddler's time was the fourth best time in UW history in the 400 IM.
