Twenty UW Swimmers and Divers Receive All-Mountain West Conference Accolades

LARAMIE, Wyo. - Following the most successful run in school history at the 2008 Mountain West Conference Swimming and Diving Championships, 20 Wyoming athletes were recently selected to the All-MWC team. Both the Cowboys and Cowgirls scored the most team points in school history and matched their highest finishes in the standings. Over the four day meet, Wyoming won four individual conference championships, broke 15 school records and had 45 performances that rank in the top-five of UW's all-time record book. Also, Tom Johnson was selected as the MWC Women's Coach of the Year and Ben Herdt was named the Men's Diving Coach of the Year. Led by three divers and two swimmers who earned all-conference honors in three events, a total of 10 Cowboys were honored by the MWC. Junior Tyler Miller and freshmen Kyle Bogner, the MWC one-meter diving champion, and Mark Murdock each received all-conference honors in all three diving events. Juniors Alex Larkin and Matt Urich were each honored in two individual events as well as members of the 400 medley relay team. Urich was the MWC Champion in both the 100 and 200 butterfly events. Seniors Sam King and Will McCallum were each honored in two individual events. For the Cowgirls, 10 athletes received all-conference honors. Sophomore Megan Evans, junior Krista Jones, sophomore Stephanie Ortiz, junior Aimee Stinson and senior Brittany Wainwright each earned All-MWC honors in three individual events. Stinson won the conference title in the 1650 freestyle. Sophomore Jessica Fruhwirth and freshmen Stephanie Vint and Lesley Young were each honored in two separate events.
To receive All-MWC honors, an individual must place in the top six of an event for men and the top-eight for women at the conference championship meet. For the relays, a team must finish in the top three of their event. 2008 Wyoming Swimming and Diving All-Conference Performers:
