Cowgirl Swim Team Signs Olympic Trials Qualifier
May 12, 2000 LARAMIE, Wyo. -
University of Wyoming head swimming coach Tom Johnson announced today the signing of Mabry Fiddler to a letter of intent to attend the University of Wyoming in Fall of 2000. Fiddler, from Birmingham, Ala., is transferring from Auburn University where she helped the Tigers to a fifth-place finish at the 2000 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships. She also placed 12th in both the 400 IM and 200 butterfly at the 2000 Southeastern Conference Championships. Her time in the 400 IM would have won the same event at the Mountain West Conference Championships. She currently has Senior National qualifying times in the 100 and 200 breaststroke and the 200 and 400 individual medleys. Fiddler attended USA Swimming National Select Camp in 1996, and was named Southeastern Swimming's Swimmer of the Year in 1996. In that same year, she was a Junior National Champion, and is the current Junior National meet record-holder in the 100 and 200 meter breaststroke. She was runner-up in the 400 IM and a finalist in the 100 breast and 200 IM at the 1998 National Junior Championships. Head swimming and diving coach Tom Johnson coached Fiddler in high school while he was head coach and program director for the Birmingham Swim League. "Mabry will make an instant impact in our program." said Johnson. "She
has the potential to win three events at conference next year and will
make a significant impact on our relay teams. I have known Mabry and
coached her since she was 13 years-old, she is a very gifted and
talented athlete and has a tremendous work ethic. She is very versatile
and has tremendous range."
