Wyoming Swimming Signs Three Student Athletes

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

University of Wyoming head swimming coach Tom Johnson announced the signing of three women swimmers to the Cowgirl swimming team. Heidi Thorson of Rozet, Wyoming, Laura Glaab of Superior, Colorado and Tamara Lehnerz of Littleton, Colorado will join the Cowgirls this fall.

Heidi Thorson, Rozet, Wyoming (Campbell County High School)

Thorson comes to Wyoming from Campbell County High School where she is a state champion in the 200 IM and the 100 butterfly. She is also very strong in the 100 backstroke. She was named All-State, All-Conference and was an All-American consideration performer all four years of high school. Along with swimming for Campbell County High School, she also competes for the Gillette Gators Swim Club.

"Heidi is very talented in many events," said Johnson. "She swims very tough on relays and will help our team in many ways. We are very excited to have Heidi joining us next fall."

Laura Glaab, Superior, Colorado (Monarch High School)

Glaab comes to UW from Monarch High School where she was a Colorado state finalist in the 500 freestyle. She competed at the USA Swimming's Sectional championships in the 100 and 1650 freestyle. She also swims for the Boulder Poseidon Swimming club.

"Laura has had outstanding improvement over the past year. She is still developing into a very good distance freestyler and will bring us some much needed depth in those events," said Johnson. Glaab was also recruited by Colorado State University, Texas Christian University and Denver University.

Tamara Lehnerz, Littleton, Colorado (Arapahoe High School)

Lehnerz comes to the Cowgirls from Arapahoe High School where she was a Colorado state finalist in the 100 and 200 freestyle. She helped to team to back-to-back state championships in 2001 and 2002. She also swam for the Greenwood Tiger Sharks.

"Tamara will give us some much needed depth in the 100 and 200 freestyles," said Johnson. "She is also very versatile , as she can come down to the 50 freestyle and up to the 500 freestyle." Lehnerz was also recruited by Colorado State University, Rensselear Polytechnic Institute, Colorado School of Mines and the University of Northern Colorado.
