Aug. 9, 2000

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

One former and four current University of Wyoming Swim Team members will be competing in the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials. The trials, which are being held in Indianapolis, Ind., will run from Aug. 9-16. The top two individuals in each event will qualify for the 2000 Olympics, which will take place in Sydney, Australia.

Former Laramie swimming standout Buddy Boysen will be competing in the 100-meter Butterfly, and will represent the Cowboy Aquatics Club. Boysen is a two-time conference finalist in the 100 Butterfly, and is the current school record holder in the event.

"Buddy has been consistently faster over the summer, and has gained more confidence after each meet," said UW head swimming coach Tom Johnson. "It is quite a challenge to train in a 25-meter pool and compete in a 50-meter pool, so we have had to adjust his training more to allow him to be successful."

Sophomore Angie Sax, of Memphis, Tenn., will represent the Memphis Tiger Swimming Team, which is coached by her sister Christy Sax. She qualified for the trials at the 2000 MWC Championships in the 100 and 200 Butterfly.

"Angie has had a lot to overcome this summer, with the sudden and tragic passing of her younger sister in an automobile accident. She has had some good meets throughout the summer. She just needs to be confident and focused in order to swim well."

Damian Storz, of Woodland, Calif., will be competing in the 400 Individual Medley for the Woodland Swim Club. Storz was the MWC Champion in the 400 IM, and was voted the MWC Freshman of the Year at the conference championships.

"Damian has competed very well throughout the summer," said Johnson. "He has been training hard during the spring and summer months, and I expect him to have a great trials."

Sophomore Jacob Weidert will represent the Spokane Area Swimming Team in the 200-meter Butterfly. Weidert placed second at the 2000 MWC Championships, and was a finalist in the 200 and 400-meter Individual Medley.

"Jacob has worked really hard this spring and summer in order to get into good shape. He is a fierce competitor, and should do quite well this week."

The final competitor is former Cowboy standout and fifth year assistant coach Temple. He is the Wyoming school record holder in the 200 Butterfly, the event he will be swimming at the trials. Temple is representing his home club of Palo Alto Swim Club.
