Hurst proved her worth early on in her freshman campaign, gathering four top-five finishes in the 100- and 200-meter dashes throughout the year. Her best finish came at the Potts Invite, when she finished second in the 100. She also got experience running in the MWC Championships, finishing 18th in the 400. For her prowess in the classroom, she was named Academic All-Conference and as a Scholar-Athlete for a perfect 4.0 GPA. High School... Hurst was a letterman in three sports, including track, basketball and cross country. She qualified for state track every year in high school, and was part of or set school records in the 4-by-100-meter relay, the 4-by-200, the 4-by-400 and sprint medley.
