2010-11... Nelson established herself as the top Cowgirl distance runner in her freshman year, finishing in the top 25 in all six cross country races. She was the MW's Freshman of the Year in cross country, and contributed in indoor and outdoor track as well. She set the school record in the 5,000-meter run and was fourth at the MW Championships in the same event. She set team-best marks in five events in indoor and outdoor track.

High School... Nelson had quite the prep career in both academics and athletics. She was named to the honor roll for four straight years and was a National Honor Society member. She also was named to the First-Team All-Metro track team in Kansas City, Kan., along with earning First-Team honors in cross country. She was the state runner-up in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs at the state 6A meet.

Personal... Nelson is the daughter of James and Leslie Nelson, and has one sister, Katie. She intends to study nursing.
