05/14/2009 2009 MWC Outdoor Track and Field Championships - Day TwoImages of UW student-athletes from Day Two of the 2009 MWC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, May 13, Laramie, Wyo. 2008-09... Jay had a very successful season competing in the multi-events the entire year. While at the indoor Mountain West Conference Championships he scored 4,995 points in the Heptathlon, good for fourth place and the third highest in Wyoming history. During the outdoor MWC Championships he once again was the fourth best in the conference in the Decathlon with a total of 6,453 points. Jay earned the Most Improved Award voted on by his teammates. 2007-08... A letterwinner in both the indoor and outdoor seasons as he took the reins for the multi-events. During the indoor season he showed his versatility at the MWC Championships as he placed seventh with 4,566 points. At that meet he placed third in the 1,000-meter race and fourth in the 60-meter hurdles. In Fort Worth, Tex., at the outdoor MWC Championships he placed seventh in the decathlon scoring a total of 6,092 points. 2006-07... In Jay's freshman season, he placed fifth and sixth in the 110m hurdles and 400m hurdles at the Jack Christiansen Invite in Fort Collins, Colo. High School... Jay was a two-year letterman in football as well as lettering all four years in track and field. Personal... Jay was born July 1, in Mesa, Ariz. He is the son of Julie and former Nebraska QB Roy Petsch.
