Afiya will be counted on as a senior leader because of her maturity and ability. She was the top 200- and 400-meter dash runner for the Cowgirls in both indoor and outdoor track. She also was chosen to be part of Trinidad's Under 23 team for the NACAC championships. She already has etched her name among the all-time Wyoming track greats, and her legacy can only grow with this season's performance. 2008-09... Afiya was an outdoor regional qualifier in both the 400-meter dash and 4-by-400-meter relay. She placed fifth at the Mountain West Conference Championships in the 400-meter dash and currently owns the fifth-fastest time in the same event in Cowgirl history. Academically, she was named to the Academic All-Conference team for her hard work in the classroom. Personal... Afiya was born on Aug. 27 in Trinidad. She is the daughter of Laura and Lloyd Walker. She chose UW over schools like the University of Nebraska because of the great academics and coaching staff. Afiya enjoys hanging out with friends, running, swimming and listening to music. She intends to become an engineer.
