Amanda Clower begins her third season as an assistant coach for the University of Wyoming cross country and track and field teams. Three years ago, she was a volunteer coach and helped head cross country coach Randy Cole with the distance squads. Now with two years of full-time experience under her belt, she'll become an even greater asset.

She brought a winning background with her when she came to Laramie. While attending Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, she helped coach the men's cross country team to two Southland Conference (SLC) Championship in 2007 and 2008. But Clower didn't just coach the Cardinals - she also was an integral part of their success. While on the women's cross country team, she received All-Southland Conference honors three times, as well as being named to the NCAA All-South Central Region team twice. During her indoor track career, she was the SLC Open Mile Champion in 2006, and was a part of the 2006 and 2007 distance medley championship team. She currently holds the second-fastest time in the 1-mile run and third-fastest times in the 3,000-meter and 5,000-meter run in Lamar University history. She was a two-time SLC Conference Champion in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, as well as a three-time All-SLC team selection. In the same event, she qualified for the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship twice.

She placed 22nd at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Sacramento, Calif., her senior year. She also qualified for the World University Games in Bangkok, Thailand, in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, where she placed 13th. She currently is the school-record holder in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:16.99, and is second-best in the 3,000-meter run.

Clower came to the Gem City from Tauranga, New Zealand, and married UW assistant tennis coach Dean Clower in December 2008. She received her bachelor's degree in psychology with a minor in kinesiology, and currently is working on her Masters degree in clinical psychology.
