Cross Country Wyoming Invitational

Wyoming Cross Country Team at the Wyoming Invitational September 3,2010

2010-11... Nelson established herself as the top Cowgirl cross country runner in her freshman year. In addition to earning her first letter, she was the MW's Freshman of the Year and also received Second Team All-Conference honors. She added an All-Mountain Region performance, and finished in the top 25 of six races, four times in the top 10. She also excelled in track this season, posting the team's top marks and establishing UW all-time marks in the 1,500- and 5,000-meter runs in outdoor track and the 1-mile, 3,000- and 5,000-meter runs in indoor track. She also qualified for the NCAA Preliminary Meet in Eugene, Ore., finishing 31st in the 5,000. Though just a sophomore, Nelson will be counted on for her experience, talent and leadership.

High School... Nelson had quite the prep career in both academics and athletics. She was named to the honor roll for four straight years and was a National Honor Society member. She also was named to the First-Team All-Metro track team in Kansas City, Kan., along with earning First-Team honors in cross country. She was the state runner-up in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs at the state 6A meet.

Personal... She is the daughter of James and Leslie Nelson, and has one sister, Katie. She intends to study nursing.
