LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The University of Wyoming men's and women's cross country teams competed at the University of Northern Colorado Inivitational, Saturday in Greeley, Colo. The Cowboys took 3rd place out of eight teams while the Cowgirls placed 4th out of 12 teams.

The Cowgirls finished the 5,000 meter event with 118 total points. Pacing Wyoming was sophomore Ashley Mecham, from Green River, Wyo., with a 10th place finish followed by senior Stephanie Hanks (15th), freshman Elena Helmerick (27th), freshman Christine Michel (31st), junior Cathy Cooper (38th), freshman Emerald Reid (41st) and junior Jennifer Mansell (42nd).

The Cowboys were led by sophomore Amasa Mecham, from Green River, Wyo., who finished 5th in the 8,000 meter event. Following Mecham was freshman Brian Knight in 6th place, freshman Brain Harnisch in 18th, freshman Troy Hernandez in 20th, sophomore Arte Huhn in 22nd, freshman Micheal Huntington in 24th and sophpmore Jeremy Thompson in 31st.

"I feel we had a good day," said Wyoming head cross country coach Jim Sanchez after the meet on Saturday. "Both groups are putting it together as real teams. The last few weeks we were somewhat scattered all over the course, but today we packed in groups and raced hard."

The Cowboys and Cowgirls will travel to Alabama on October 19th to compete in their next meet at the Auburn Invitational.
