COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

Wyoming senior, Mark Korir has been named the Mountain West Conference Cross Country Athlete of the Week for his win in the opening meet of the year, the Wyoming Invitational, on Friday, Aug. 29th.

Korir, hailing from Eldoret, Kenya, won his second-consecutive Wyoming Invitational last Friday with a time of 21:45:00, leading the Cowboys to a second-place finish against a field that included Conference rivals Air Force and Colorado State. Korir, who set a course record at last year's meet with a time of 21:42.07, missed the record by only three seconds during this year's 6.8K race, but he managed to cross the finish line 18 seconds before the second-place competitor.

This is Korir's fourth career weekly honor in cross country from the MWC.

Colorado State's Ellie Rastall, a redshirt freshman, was honored as the MWC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week. Rastall won the Wyoming Invitational 2.5 mile race in Laramie last Friday.
