COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

University of Wyoming sophomore Mark Korir (Eldoret, Kenya) was selected yesterday as the Mountain West Conference Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for his efforts at the Arkansas Chile Pepper Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. this past weekend.

Korir placed fifth out of 288 runners with a 28:40 time over the 10,000 meter race course. This mark was the eighth fastest ever run on UA's course. The event was Korir's first 10k race as a collegian.

His effort comes on the heels of a first place finish Sept. 30 at the Rocky Mountain Shootout in Boulder, Colo. Korir's winning time of 24:51 in that 8k race was also one of the fastest all-time on that course.

Also announced Wednesday, San Diego State senior Celeste Tyson was selected as the MWC women's cross country athlete of the week.
