LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The University of Wyoming cross country teams will compete in the NCAA Mountain Regional meet Saturday in Riverdale, Utah. The men's 10K race will begin at 11:00 a.m. and the women's 6K will start at 12:15 at Riverside Golf Course.

Everyone competes for a chance at qualifying for the NCAA cross country Championships held Monday, November 19th in Terre Haute, Indiana. There will be 19 teams in the women's race and 17 in the men's race, the top two teams automatically qualify. There will also be 13 teams in the nation that receive at-large bids and the top four individuals from the region that are not on a qualifying team will receive a berth to the NCAA meet.

Last year's Regional meet was held in Albuquerque, N.M. where the Pokes finished sixth overall out of 15 teams, the best finish for the Cowboys in a Regional meet since 1995, while the Cowgirls placed 10th out of 17 teams.

Current junior Mark Korir and senior Gretchen Johnson both received All-Mountain Region honors last year with Korir qualifying for the NCAA Championship meet. Korir finished last year's race third overall with a time of 29:56.7. Johnson finished in 22nd out of 119 runners with a time of 21:31.1 in the 6K.
