He is the longest tenured member of Steve McClain's coaching staff, having been with McClain all eight seasons at Wyoming. Adams has played an instrumental role in helping build Wyoming into a Mountain West Conference power and a contender for postseason play every season. He excels at scouting opponents and creating gameplans for the Cowboys. He has also quickly developed into a first-class recruiter during his time at Wyoming.

In addition to his coaching duties, Adams has overseen the academic program for the Cowboy Basketball squad, and has coordinated the Cowboy Basketball summer camps.

"If you have someone in your program who has proven himself, he should be rewarded," said head coach Steve McClain. "John Adams has been just that person. He has had a great deal to do with any success we have had in our program. I believe he is one of the bright young coaches in our business."

"I'm appreciative that Coach McClain brought me to Wyoming on his original staff, and I'm honored that he's given me additional responsibilities throughout my time here," said Adams. "I look forward to continuing the success that we have enjoyed here."

Prior to joining Steve McClain's staff at Wyoming, Adams began his college coaching career as an assistant coach to Cal Luther at the University of Tennessee at Martin for the 1997-98 season.

Adams served as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Iowa State, for two seasons. The 1996-97 Iowa State squad posted a 22-9 record and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. The year prior, 1995-96, the Cyclones captured the final Big Eight Conference Tournament Championship, ending the season in the second round of the NCAA Tournament with a 24-9 record.

Adams earned his bachelor's degree in English education from Iowa State in 1995, and completed his master's degree course work in sports management, also at ISU.

Adams will begin the 2005-06 season at the age of 33 (Dec. 2, 1971). He is married to the former Michelle VanderPol. They have one daughter, Shaelyn (8), and one son, Tyler (4).
