2008-09: As a true freshman, Mikhail Linskens played a major role in the Cowboy lineup and even started the final 15 games of the season. While standing in at 7'0", Linskens has a very good skill set. He can not only score in the post, but also shoots the ball well from the outside. With a year of experience under his belt, Linskens looks to continue to improve and become one of the top centers in the Mountain West Conference. 2007-08: Linskens enjoyed a very successful freshman season, starting each of the last 15 games of the 2007-08 season for the Cowboys. He averaged 4.2 points, 3.1 rebounds and 16.4 minutes per game. Linskens scored a career high 23 points versus Cal State Bakersfield on Feb. 6, 2008. He also handed out a career high three assists versus CSUB. Against TCU on Feb. 13, Linskens played a near perfect game, making all six of his field-goal attempts, including both of his three-point attempts. He scored 14 points, grabbed six rebounds and blocked a career high four opponent shots in the Wyoming home victory. He grabbed a career high eight rebounds versus Colorado State on Jan. 26 and matched that career high versus New Mexico on Feb. 9, 2008. Linskens started his first college game on Jan. 19, 2008, at San Diego State. He responded in his first start with eight points in a career high 30 minutes. Linskens missed the first five games of the 2007-08 season to satisfy NCAA rules regarding international players. As a European Player: Linskens came to Wyoming from Bredene, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium where he was one of the top junior players in Europe. He played on Belgium's 20 and Under National Team during the summer of 2007. The year prior to coming to Wyoming, he was one of the youngest players on his club team, yet he averaged nine points, five rebounds and 18 minutes per game, while shooting 45 percent from the field, 39 percent from three-point range and 80 percent from the free-throw line. He was invited to participate in the "Basketball Without Borders" instructional camps for European junior players in both the summer of 2003 and the summer of 2004. "Basketball Without Borders" is co-sponsored by the NBA and the Federation Internationale de Basketball (FIBA). He was one of approximately 50 junior players from the ages of 15-18 invited to the summer camp by the FIBA. The junior players were selected by the FIBA based on their basketball skills, leadership abilities and dedication to the sport of basketball. Personal: Born April 21, 1987. He is the son of Birgitte Guiot and Jerry Linskens. Mikhail speaks five languages: English, French, Dutch, Flemish and German. Linskens was also recruited by Fresno State, St. Bonaventure, St. Joseph's (Pa.) and Washington. He is majoring in international studies at UW. |
