11/15/2011 Cruz's 30 Push Wyoming Past Northern Colorado, 75-56Senior Guard Goes 16-of-20 from Free-Throw Line Wes Long enters his second season as Director of Player Development/Strength and Conditioning for Wyoming in 2012-13. He was hired on April 14, 2011, after spending four season at UCLA. He served as the Men's and Women's Basketball Athletic Performance Coach for the Bruins. "Wes will be a great asset to our program--he has tremendous knowledge of both strength and conditioning, and basketball," UW head coach Larry Shyatt said at the time of Long's hiring. "He will drive our players to reach their full potential, while also building great relationships with everyone in our program." Prior to spending four seasons at UCLA, Long spent four seasons at his alma mater, the University of Texas in Austin. Long served as the men's basketball assistant video coordinator during the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons. Prior to that, he worked as a graduate manager for the strength and conditioning program from 2004-07. Long is a certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist from the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He earned both his bachelor's and master's degree at the University of Texas. He received a bachelor's degree in advertising in 2003 and a master's degree in kinesiology in 2005. Long and his wife Kristin welcomed a son, Chasen, on May 21, 2010. "My family and I are thrilled to be at the University of Wyoming with Coach Shyatt and a great coaching staff," Long said. "This is a tremendous opportunity to work at a great place like Wyoming and I hope we can create something special here." |
