2004-05 (Senior): Dion Sherrell is expected to be a leading candidate for the starting shooting guard spot when the 2004-05 season tips off in November. The senior should provide the Cowboys with added scoring punch this season. He began to shoot the ball well down the stretch of his junior campaign at Wyoming, hitting 45.0 percent of his field-goal attempts (18 of 40) in the last four games of the season. During that final four-game stretch, he also hit 42.9 percent of his three-point field goals (9 of 21), and 83.3 percent of his free throws (5 of 6). In addition to being an outstanding outside shooter, Sherrell is strong enough to take the ball to the rim.

He was one of the most highly-touted junior college players in the nation entering his sophomore season at Schoolcraft Community College in 2002-03. He was ranked by The Sporting News as the No. 4 best junior college shooting guard in the country in the magazine's 2002-03 preseason college basketball issue.

2003-04 (Junior): Sherrell was beginning to come into his own in the month of December, scoring in double figures in three consecutive games. He had 13 at Kansas State on Dec. 3, 16 vs. Washington on Dec. 6 and 11 at California on Dec. 9, but then at a practice on Dec. 12, he suffered a sprained foot and ankle chasing a loose ball out of bounds. He missed the next four games. After overcoming that injury, he gradually became a more integral part of the Cowboy attack. He had his best career game on Feb. 23 in Las Vegas, scoring 22 against UNLV. He averaged 11.6 points per game in the last five games of the season -- eight at San Diego State, 22 at UNLV, nine versus Colorado State, nine against Air Force and 10 in the first round of the MWC Tournament versus BYU. Sherrell started five of the last six games of the 2003-04 season. For the season, he started eight of the 23 games he appeared in. He was the Cowboys' best free-throw shooter, converting 77.8 percent (21 of 27). He ranked second on the Cowboy squad in three-point shooting, hitting 34.2 percent from the arc (26 of 76), and was sixth in scoring (6.5 points per game). He scored in double figures five times during the season. Four different times, he grabbed six rebounds in a single game.

2002-03 (Sophomore): Sherrell was off to an outstanding start to his sophomore season at Schoolcraft Community College, averaging 19.6 points per game as his team built a 9-0 record. But just before Christmas, in the 10th game of the season, Sherrell broke the fifth metatarsal (little toe) in his right foot when he came down with a rebound and landed on the foot of an opponent. He was able to return to action in late February, but wasn't at full strength. He ended the season averaging 13.7 points and 3.4 rebounds per game.

Schoolcraft posted a 31-4 overall record and captured the 2003 Michigan State Community College Championship. Schoolcraft advanced to the NJCAA National Tournament, where it won its opening round game over Redlands CC of Oklahoma, 67-60. Schoolcraft lost in the second round to Dixie College of Utah, 52-65, and then concluded the season, losing in the consolation round to Monroe College of New York, 97-103. Sherrell played for head coach Carlos Briggs at Schoolcraft.

2001-02 (Freshman): Sherrell signed with Wichita State and played his freshman season of 2001-02 for the Shockers, but decided to leave after one season and return to his native Michigan to play at Schoolcraft Community College.

High School/Personal: A native of Detroit, Mich., Sherrell came out of Henry Ford High School in Detroit as the leading scorer in the city, averaging 26.8 points per game as a high school senior. He earned Second Team All-City honors, was a Third Team All-State selection and was runner-up in voting for Mr. Basketball in the Detroit Public School League. Sherrell was named "Mr. Westside of Detroit", the best player in west Detroit his senior year. His high school coach was Arvis Young.

Born April 14, 1983, he is the son of Robin Sherrell. He was recruited out of high school by Houston, San Diego State, Texas A&M, UNLV and Wichita State. His father, Steve Caldwell, played at San Diego State, and lettered there in 1982. Sherrell is majoring in social science.

Coming out of junior college, he chose Wyoming over DePaul, Oklahoma and Washington State.
