2003-04 (Senior): Ryan Wildenborg will be expected to play a significant role at center as he enters his senior season. He brings a physical presence and physical style of play to the court that will be useful against a number of quality big men throughout the Mountain West Conference. Wildenborg played in 22 of 32 games for the Cowboys a year ago, and played in eight of 14 conference games. 2002-03 (Redshirt Junior): In his first season playing for the University of Wyoming, Wildenborg averaged 1.3 points, 1.3 rebounds and 5.4 minutes per game. He shot 55.0 percent on the season (11 of 20 from the field). Wildenborg's best game as a Cowboy came against Prairie View A&M, when he scored six points and pulled down four rebounds. He also scored six points against Savannah State. In MWC play, he had four points and three rebounds at New Mexico and four points at BYU. 2001-02 (Junior): Wildenborg played two seasons at the University of Minnesota before transferring to Wyoming. He sat out the 2001-02 season to satisfy NCAA transfer rules. Wildenborg worked as hard as anyone on the team during the season he sat out. The Cowboy coaching staff was impressed with his work ethic in the weight room and in practices. Having played in a very physical league -- the Big Ten -- he brought a physical style of play to Cowboy practices, and helped the Wyoming post players develop throughout the 2001-02 season. 2000-01 (Sophomore at Minnesota): Wildenborg played in all 29 games and started 11 games for the Golden Gophers as a sophomore. He averaged 11.2 minutes per game, 2.1 points and 1.9 rebounds. His season scoring high was eight versus UNC-Greensboro. Against Wisconsin, he pulled down a career high nine rebounds as the Gophers defeated the Badgers. The most minutes he played in a single game came against TCU when he tallied 22 minutes. 1999-2000 (Freshman at Minnesota): His freshman season, Wildenborg started six of 26 games at Minnesota, including starting the final five games of the season. He scored a career high 10 points against Iowa as a freshman. He also blocked a career best two shots in that same game, while playing 21 minutes. Wildenborg averaged 1.7 points and 1.8 rebounds per game as a freshman, but over the last six games of the season he boosted those averages to 4.6 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. High School/Personal: Wildenborg played his high school basketball at Juanita High School in Kirkland, Wash. His high school coach was David Friedman. Wildenborg averaged 11.9 points, 11.1 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game his senior season. He also set a school record with 60 blocked shots his senior campaign. His career highs were 23 points and 26 rebounds in high school. He was ranked as the No. 34 best player available and the third best center available by Hoop Scoop magazine entering his senior season. He shot 61 percent from the field and 70 percent from the free-throw line for his high school career. He also played for the Friends of Hoops traveling team at ABCD camps in 1997 and 1998. Wildenborg was an All-Star selection at the Nike Prep Classic in San Diego during his high school years. Born Feb. 13, 1981, he is the son of Linda Lofquist and Joe Wildenborg. He has two younger sisters, Caitlin and Elissa, and two older brothers, Jason and Ethan. Both of his brothers played in college -- Jason at Central Washington and Ethan at Grand Canyon University and Lewis & Clark College. Other schools that recruited Wildenborg out of high school included: Clemson, DePaul, Oklahoma, Texas and Washington. He is majoring in agriculture business. |
