Cowboys Round Up Colorado St., 72-70
Feb. 10, 2001
By ROBERT W. BLACK LARAMIE, Wyo. - Marcus Bailey, the leading scorer in the Mountain West Conference, scored 20 points to lead Wyoming to a 72-70 victory over Colorado State before a record crowd at the Arena-Auditorium on Saturday. Wyoming (16-5, 7-2 MWC) led 66-56 after Chris McMillian's two free throws at the 2:06 mark. The Cowboys sank 8 of 12 free throws down the stretch to stave off a furious rally by Colorado State (13-8, 4-4). John Sivesind, who led the Rams with 17 points, hit a 3-pointer with six-tenths of a second left to account for the final margin. McMillian fed Josh Davis for back-to-back dunks to key a 12-3 second-half surge, helping the Cowboys erase a 46-45 deficit and take a 57-49 lead with 7:51 remaining. Wyoming widened the lead to 64-53 on a layup by Davis with 4:20 left. The crowd of 15,456 topped the old mark of 15,218 set Jan. 21, 1995, against BYU. Davis finished with 13 points and six blocked shots, while Uche Nsonwu-Amadi had 12 points and 12 rebounds. Brett McFall scored 12 and McMillian added 10 for Wyoming. David Fisher had 16 for Colorado State, while Garrett Patik had 13 and Ron Grady and Brian Greene scored 10 each. The lead changed hands eight times in the first eight minutes of the second
half and neither team led by more than two until McFall's two free throws put
Wyoming up 49-46 with 12 minutes left.
