In fact, the Cowboys' 12-game winning streak in the Arena-Auditorium ranks No. 19 in the nation.
Aztecs and Cowboys Last Meeting in Laramie Was Marked by Scoring Runs: A year ago when the San Diego State Aztecs came to Laramie to play the Cowboys, the game between the two long-time conference rivals was a game of scoring runs. Wyoming jumped out to a 17-point lead early in the first half, only to have SDSU come back with scoring runs of 13-3, 8-1 and 15-1 to take a 47-42 halftime lead over the Pokes. In the second half, it was an 11-2 Wyoming run midway through the second half that led the Cowboys to a 93-87 home victory. Wyoming was led by four Cowboys scoring in double figures, including current junior Chris McMillian, who scored a team high 18 points. San Diego State was sparked by current junior Myron Epps, who scored a game high 32 points.
Wyoming and UNLV to be Featured on ESPN's Big Monday: Monday's matchup between the Wyoming Cowboys and UNLV Runnin' Rebels will be featured on ESPN's Big Monday. Bob Carpenter will describe the play-by-play action. Jimmy Dykes will add color analysis. The game will tip off at 10:00 p.m. Mountain time.
Cowboys and Runnin' Rebels Meeting in Last Season's MWC Tournament -- One of ESPN's Most Exciting Games of 1999-2000: The site was the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nev. The occasion was the Semifinal Round of the 2000 Mountain West Conference Tournament on Friday, March 10. Wyoming and UNLV faced off in one of the classic games of the 1999-2000 season -- a 97-92 UNLV victory. Both teams shot better than 50 percent for the game -- Wyoming hit 50.7 percent, while UNLV hit 56.1 percent. Despite UW's Josh Davis picking up his fourth foul with 16:44 remaining in the game, Wyoming built an 80-71 lead at the 8:20 mark of the second half. Former Cowboy LeDarion Jones led the Pokes in scoring with 27. Current Cowboys Davis and Brett McFall scored 12 and 17 respectively. But UNLV, led by current Rebels Dalron Johnson (23 points), Trevor Diggs (20 points) and Kaspars Kambala (18 points), led UNLV back to capture a 97-92 home victory. There were three ties in the game and six lead changes.
Cowboys Atop Conference Standings for the First Time Since 1994-95 Season: The Wyoming Cowboys are currently in first place in the Mountain West Conference with a 5-1 conference record. It is the first time since the 1994-95 season that the Pokes have been in first place in the conference race. The Cowboys began that season 5-1, as well.
Wyoming Brings Five-Game MWC Winning Streak Into This Week, Pokes Have Already Won Three MWC Road Games: Wyoming brings a five-game conference winning streak into tonight's game at New Mexico. After losing its first conference game of the season at Utah on Jan. 8, Wyoming has posted five consecutive MWC wins. With three of those five wins coming on the road. It is the longest current winning streak in the MWC.
