Cowboys and Aztecs -- Down to the Wire: The recent series history between the Wyoming Cowboys and San Diego State Aztecs has been one of down-to-the-wire finishes.

Since the 1992-93 season, the series has featured a number of extremely close games. During that time period, the two teams have met 16 times . In those last 16 meetings, 11 of the 16 games have been decided by 10 points or less and eight of the last 16 meetings have been decided by three points or less.

Of those 11 down-to-the-wire finishes, Wyoming has won all six meetings in Laramie, while San Diego State has won all five of the 10-point or less contests in San Diego. Over that eight-year span the two teams also played three times in the WAC Tournament with SDSU winning all three meetings by margins of three points or less in 1993, 94 and 98, all at neutral sites.

The only other WAC Tournament meeting between the two teams was in the 1988 season when Wyoming won 83-76 in Provo in the quarterfinals on way to the Pokes most recent WAC Tournament Championship.

The two schools did not play in the regular season during the 1997-98 or 1998-99 seasons due to the rotating scheduling of the old 16-team WAC.

Wyoming-UNLV Continue Close Rivalry -- Home Teams Dominate: The Wyoming Cowboys and UNLV Runnin' Rebels first met in the 1966-67 season, when UNLV was known as Nevada Southern. The home team has dominated the series, with only three road wins in the series.

Cowboys and Runnin' Rebels to be Featured on SportsWest TV: The Wyoming Cowboys and UNLV Runnin' Rebels will be featured on SportsWest TV, Saturday, March 3 at 8:00 p.m., Mountain time.

Dave McCann will describe the play-by-play action. He will be joined by Blaine Fowler, who will add color analysis.

Cowboys Lead the MWC in Field-Goal Percentage Defense: The Wyoming Cowboys are allowing opponents only 40.1 percent shooting from the field for the season entering this week to rank No. 1 in the Mountain West Conference.

Cowboys 18-7 Record Establishes the Best Start in McClain Era: Wyoming's 18-7 record this season is the best start by a Steve McClain team at Wyoming. In McClain's first season (1998-99), Wyoming started out 16-9. Last season (1999-2000), the Cowboys were 15-10 through 25 games.

McClain's '98-'99 squad won its 26th game of the season to go to 17-9. A year ago, Wyoming won its 26th game for a 16-10 start.
