LARAMIE, Wyo. -

Wyoming senior point guard Chris McMillian underwent surgery on Thursday to repair a fractured fibula above his left ankle sustained while playing in a summer league softball game. He is expected to be ready for the season opener.

According to UW Athletic Trainer Bill Lyons, McMillian cannot place any weight on the ankle for six weeks, but will be able to begin his rehabilitation at that time.

McMillian suffered the injury while sliding during a softball game on Wednesday (July 25).

A native of Brea, Calif., McMillian has been an integral part of Wyoming's basketball success since he came to the University in 1998. He has started all 89 games of his career at point guard. He is currently number three on the UW career assist list with 369, and number four on the UW career steal chart with 120. This past season he ranked number three in the Mountain West Conference in assists, and number five in assist-to-turnover ratio.

He finished the season averaging 6.9 points per game.
