UW This Season: Russ Arnold will take over at center for the Cowboys in 2009. Arnold enters his senior season with 16 career starts to his credit. The respect he has from his teammates was evident when he was voted one of four team captains at the conclusion of 2009 spring drills. He has played both center and offensive guard during his career, and will be responsible for anchoring the Wyoming offense in its new no-huddle, spread formation in `09. 2008: Arnold backed up former Cowboy seniors Tim Bond at center and Kyle Howard at right guard in 2008. He started one game at right guard versus New Mexico when Howard was shifted to right tackle for an injured Clayton Kirven. Arnold played in a total of seven games in `08. He received Academic All-Mountain West Conference recognition for the third consecutive season. 2007: He started all 12 games for UW as a sophomore. Arnold started the first eight games of his sophomore season at right guard. When Bond went down with injury for two games, Arnold slid over to center to start. He finished the season starting the final two games back at his original right guard position. He achieved Academic All-Mountain West Conference honors for the second consecutive season. 2006: Arnold played in five games his redshirt freshman season, and started three at offensive right guard -- versus Boise State, Air Force and Syracuse -- when former Cowboy senior Jason Karcher was out with a knee injury. Arnold earned Academic All-Conference honors for the first time in his college career. 2005: Redshirted. High School: Russ Arnold was one of the top offensive linemen in the state of Colorado his senior season of 2004. He was named First Team All-Colorado as an offensive lineman for all classifications by The Denver Post. He also earned First Team All-Class 5A by The Denver Post. The Rocky Mountain News selected him First Team All-Class 5A, and named him Second Team All-Colorado for all classifications. Northglenn High School finished the regular season with a 7-3 record. Northglenn was one of only 16 Class 5A teams to qualify for the state playoffs, and entered the playoffs as the No. 5 seed. Northglenn was upset in the first round of the state playoffs by Fort Collins High School, and concluded the 2004 season 7-4. Arnold was also an outstanding wrestler. He earned Academic All-Conference as a senior and received the President's Award for Academic Excellence. He was the first individual to commit to the Cowboys in the 2005 recruiting class. He was coached at Northglenn High School by Scott Gallas. Personal: Born June 28, 1987, he is the son of Barbara and Grant Arnold. Arnold was also recruited by Colorado, Colorado State and San Diego State. He is majoring in business administration. |
