Cody Bousema joined the Wyoming Football program in the summer of 2008 as a walkon. He transferred to Wyoming after playing his first two years of college football at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa. Bousema was the starting punter and handled kickoffs at Ellsworth Community College in 2007. He averaged 38 yards per punt, with 40 percent of his kickoffs resulting in touchbacks. He also has some experience as a place-kicker, converting five of five field-goal attempts in '07 and two field goals. His junior-college coach was John Salla.

Bousema played his high school football at Daniel J. Gross Catholic in Omaha, Neb. He was a First Team All-Metro selection for Class B, while averaging 41.6 yards per punt. Bousema was elected a team captain his senior year of high school. He also played soccer as a junior and senior. Bousema was coached by head football coach Jerry Shank.

Born Aug. 10, 1987, he is the oldest of two children of Lauri and Kevin Bousema. Coming out of junior college, he was also recruited by Iowa State, Kansas and Tulsa. He has not yet decided on a college major.
