UW This Season: Chris Dixon returns to start at cornerback for his second consecutive season. In his first season of 2002, Dixon started the last 10 consecutive games at corner for UW. 2002: Beginning with the third game of the year against Boise State, Dixon started the remainder of the season for the Pokes at corner. He ranked fifth in total tackles for Wyoming in 2002. Dixon was credited with 60 tackles -- 36 solos and 24 assists -- in his first season after transferring to Wyoming from Hinds Community College in Mississippi. Dixon ranked second on the team in passes broken up, with three. He also forced one fumble, and had three tackles for losses of four yards. Dixon enrolled at UW in January of 2002, and went through 2002 spring drills with the Cowboys. Junior College: Dixon earned Most Valuable Defensive Player honors in the 2001 Mississippi Junior College All-Star Game. He also earned Second Team Junior College All-State honors. In 2001, Dixon was his team's second leading tackler, with 37 solo tackles and 16 assists for a total of 53 tackles. He registered four quarterback sacks for a minus 22 yards, five tackles for losses of a minus 20 yards, caused four fumbles, had two passes broken up and intercepted three passes. Dixon was a two-year starter at safety for Hinds. His freshman season at Hinds Community College, he was part of a team that won the 2000 Mississippi Junior College State Championship. Dixon played for head coach George Murphy at Hinds. He was also recruited by Central Arkansas, East Tennessee and Tennessee Martin. High School: He played his high school football at Jim Hill High School in Jackson, Miss. In high school, Dixon played defensive back and wide receiver, earning All-District honors. An outstanding all-around athlete, he also played basketball, soccer and ran track. His high school football coach was Daryl Jones.
