UW This Season: Jim Downs came to the University of Wyoming from Glenrock, Wyo., last year at an impressive size for a high school senior of 265 pounds. But in just one year, the redshirt freshman has added 15 pounds to his frame, and at 6'7" and 280 pounds he now is competing for playing time as a college lineman for the Cowboys. Downs was placed No. 3 on the depth chart at left offensive tackle to conclude spring drills. He will compete with true freshman Josh Leonard to backup senior Ryan Otterson.

High School: Downs was the top college prospect from the state of Wyoming in 2007, and he chose to remain in his home state to play football for the University of Wyoming. He earned Casper Star-Tribune Super 25 honors in 2007, and was also an All-State selection by the Wyoming Coaches' Association as an offensive lineman after leading Glenrock High School to the 3A State Championship game as a senior. Glenrock finished with a record of 9-2 in 2007. As a junior, Downs was named Honorable Mention All-State and was a First Team All-Conference performer. He was a multi-sport star at Glenrock and earned 11 letter awards. Aside from football, he was a three-year starter in basketball and has also excelled in track and field. On the hardwood, he was an All-Conference selection both his junior and senior seasons. In track and field, he placed fifth in the discus throw at the Wyoming State Track Meet his junior year, with a distance of 132'8". He was also recruited by Colorado State. Downs' high school football coach was Ray Kumpula.

Personal: Born May 12, 1990, he is the eldest of four children of Sally and Brooke Downs. He is majoring in education at Wyoming.
