UW This Season: Joe Evers is a valuable contributor to the Cowboy Football team as both a veteran tight end and a veteran special teams' performer. With tight ends being much more involved in the passing game in Wyoming's new spread offense, Evers may get much more of an opportunity in 2009 to show what he is capable of offensively. 2008: Evers played in six games for the Cowboys, catching one pass for nine yards against Utah. He was one of four tight ends/h-backs that fought for playing time in 2008. Evers entered 2008 fall practice listed No. 2 at tight end behind junior Jesson Salyards. Evers was named to the Academic All-Conference team for the first time as a Cowboy. 2007: Evers played in all 12 games in `07. Although he didn't catch any passes, he was a key contributor on special teams. 2006: Redshirted. Evers originally signed as a grayshirt with Wyoming in February of 2005, meaning he agreed to delay beginning college or going on scholarship at Wyoming until January of 2006. Evers enrolled at UW in January of `06 and went through spring drills with the Cowboys. A quarterback in high school, he is projected as a tight end in college. High School: Evers was an outstanding student-athlete at Sheridan High School in Sheridan, Wyo. He was a Second Team All-State selection in the fall of 2004. Evers played quarterback, free safety, punter and place-kicker. He was selected to play in the Wyoming Shrine All-Star game in the summer of 2005. He was an All-Conference selection as both a junior and a senior. In addition to football, he was a standout basketball player, earning All-County honors as a junior. In addition to excelling in athletics, Evers was also a member of the National Honor Society. He was coached at Sheridan High by former UW graduate assistant coach Tim LeRoy. Personal: Born Aug. 5, 1986, he is the oldest of two sons of Mary Beth and Mike Evers. He is studying finance at Wyoming. |
