UW This Season: Chad Gardner will be competing for the Wyoming Cowboys for the first time in 2004 after sitting out last season to satisfy NCAA transfer rules. He is listed No. 3 on the UW depth chart at noseguard behind junior Dusty Hoffschneider and sophomore Jake Mayes.

2003: Gardner sat out of competition to satisfy NCAA transfer rules after transferring from Dakota State University.

2001 and 2002: He attended Dakota State.

High School: Gardner was an outstanding three-sport standout at Shoshoni High School in Shoshoni, Wyo. He was an All-State selection in football his senior season of 2000, and was selected to the Casper Star-Tribune Super 25. He was selected to and played in the Wyoming Shrine Bowl in the spring of 2001. A two-time All-Conference selection, he captained his Shoshoni High team as a senior. Gardner also lettered three years in basketball and one in track in high school. His high school football coach was Harold Bailey.

Personal: Born Nov. 9, 1982, he is one of two children of Laurie and Bret Gardner. He is majoring in agriculture business.
