UW This Season: Lamar James enters his senior season as Wyoming's leading returning tackler from a year ago. A ferocious hitter, James recorded 84 total tackles in 2000 from his strong safety position. He finished third overall on the team in tackles behind 2000 seniors Kwabena Peprah (115 tackles) and Patrick Chukwurah (100). Not only did he make an impression on Wyoming fans, but James also made a name for himself in the Mountain West Conference, earning Honorable Mention All-Conference honors. Will team with fellow senior Al Rich to form one of the best safety tandems in the MWC this season. 2000: James started all 11 games at strong safety for the Pokes in 2000. In addition to ranking third on the team in tackles with 84, he led the Cowboys in fumbles forced with four. James recovered two fumbles, broke up five passes and made four tackles for losses. The 2000 season was his first year of competition at the NCAA Division I level. 1999: Redshirted. Junior College: Played two seasons at Coahoma Community College in Clarksdale, Miss. Was named the MVP of the secondary. Also played baseball while attending junior college. High School: An All-County selection at John F. Kennedy High School in Mound Bayou, Miss. As a senior, he was the team’s leading rusher with 1,300 yards and 13 touchdowns. Was recruited by Southern Miss and Alcorn State out of high school. Personal: Born Jan. 27, 1979 in Bolivar County, Miss. One of five children of Jessie and Thelma James. Majoring in physical education teaching.
