UW This Season: Mike Juergens is poised to have a big senior season in 2008. Juergens will return to start at the Buck (outside linebacker) position in `08. Like his fellow outside linebacker, Weston Johnson, Juergens brings outstanding size (6-4, 230) and athleticism to the Cowboy defense. A punishing tackler, he led UW in forced fumbles his junior season, with two. That also ranked him No. 8 in the Mountain West Conference.

2007: Juergens shared the starting duties at Buck linebacker with former Cowboy Brandon Haugen in 2007. Juergens 46 tackles ranked him 10th on the Cowboy roster. In addition to ranking eighth in the conference in forced fumbles, with two, he also ranked 20th in sacks, with three. He missed the Air Force game due to a sprained knee, but started six of the 11 games he played in during the 2007 season. His best individual game came at Boise State, recording 10 tackles and forcing one fumble. He also had an outstanding game in the season finale at Colorado State, making seven tackles including one sack and two tackles for losses.

2006: Juergens was credited with 18 tackles, one sack one forced fumble and one recovered fumble in `06. His best game of the year came in a 14-10 road win over New Mexico. Juergens made four tackles, including a half sack and forced one fumble in helping the Cowboys to the conference win. He also had a four-tackle game against TCU.

2005: Juergens played in all 11 games as a redshirt freshman, and started one game against UNLV. He recorded 16 tackles on the season, including two sacks and three tackles for losses. He also broke up two passes. Juergens was a key contributor on special teams.

2004: Redshirted.

High School: Juergens was named the Colorado Defensive Player of the Year for all classifications by the Rocky Mountain News in his senior season of 2003. He was selected to the All-Colorado Football Team for all classifications by both the Rocky Mountain News and The Denver Post. Juergens was also a First Team Class 5A selection by both Denver newspapers. In addition, the Rocky Mountain News named Juergens its 5A Defensive Player of the Year. As a defensive lineman, Juergens 11 sacks ranked second in the state of Colorado in Class 5A. In its story on the 2003 All-Colorado Team, the Rocky Mountain News stated that Juergens could have been selected to the All-Colorado Team as a tight end, as well as a defensive lineman. He had over 300 yards receiving as a senior and scored two touchdowns. He was an All-Jefferson County League selection as a defensive lineman and tight end in 2003, and was named the Defensive Player of the Year in the Jefferson County League. Pomona High School won the Jeffco League, and advanced to the quarterfinals of the state playoffs. In addition to football, Juergens captured the league championship in the pole vault and placed fifth at state. His career best height was 14' 7". Other events he participated in as a track athlete were the discus (150' career best throw), 100-meter dash (11.0 seconds), 200-meter dash (22.0 seconds) and 400 meters (50.2 seconds). In basketball, he was also a starter. He was coached in high school by Jay Madden. The schools that recruited Juergens out of high school were Colorado State and New Mexico.

Personal: Born Dec. 30, 1984, he is the son of Dallas Shelton. Juergens is majoring in communications at UW.
