UW This Season: Brian Kuhtz is another talented redshirt freshman who has made his way onto the Wyoming depth chart in a short amount of time. Kuhtz came out of last spring listed third at strong safety behind two seniors -- Michael Ray, the returning starter, and Derrick McMahen. Kuhtz should also have an opportunity to contribute immediately as a special teams performer in 2008. 2007: Redshirted. High School: Brian Kuhtz was among the most versatile athletes in the 2007 Wyoming recruiting class. Kuhtz achieved First Team All-State honors in football as a senior at Waukesha North High School in Waukesha, Wis. He was named the Offensive Player of the Year in Wisconsin Division 2, and was named his Conference Player of the Year. He rushed for over 1,600 yards and passed for over 1,500 yards as a quarterback, while also playing safety and cornerback on defense. He scored 18 rushing touchdowns, and threw 12 TD passes as a senior. He also intercepted two passes on defense. His junior year, Kuhtz rushed for over 1,200 yards, threw for over 800 and accounted for 17 touchdowns -- 12 rushing and five passing. In addition to football, he was an outstanding basketball player and track and field athlete. As a basketball player, Kuhtz earned All-Area and All-Conference honors as a senior and led his team to the third round of the state playoffs. On the track, Kuhtz placed seventh in the state track meet in the 100 meters and won conference championships in the 100, 200 and long jump as a junior. He played for head football coach Tim Behrendt at Waukesha North High. An outstanding student, he was a member of the National Honor Society, and achieved honor roll status all three years of high school.
