UW This Season: Ryan McKinley will be looked to provide depth at offensive tackle for the Cowboys in 2007. He is coming off a 2006 season in which he suffered a foot injury the week of the Air Force game that kept him out of competition for the remainder of the season. 2006: Injured. Didn't play in any games his redshirt freshman season. McKinley had earned the No. 2 spot on the depth chart at right offensive guard in the spring of `06, entering the fall as the backup to Tim Bond at that position. 2005: Redshirted. High School: Ryan McKinley earned Honorable Mention All-State honors as a defensive lineman in Class 4A from both The Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News. He was a three-year starter in football at Arvada High School. His junior season, he played both offensive tackle and defensive end. As a senior, he played only as a defensive end, and was Arvada's third leading tackler with 55 total tackles, including four sacks. He was named his team's Athlete of the Year and Defensive Lineman of the year. His junior year, he was credited with making 52 tackles, including seven sacks. His sophomore campaign, McKinley registered 40 tackles and three sacks. Named a team captain as a senior in both football and wrestling, McKinley was one of the top wrestlers in the state of Colorado in the 215-pound classification his senior season, posting a 30-6 record. He placed fourth in state his senior year, and earned Second Team All-State in wrestling. He was an outstanding hurdler on the track team, as well. A well-rounded student, he excelled in the classroom, achieving Honor Roll each year of high school, and participated in chorus in addition to athletics. He was coached at Arvada High School by Bob Bozied. McKinley was also recruited by Colorado, Colorado State, Harvard, Kansas and Kansas State. Personal: Born Sept. 13, 1986, he is the son of Judy and Kim McKinley. Ryan's father, Kim, began his college football career at the University of Nebraska and concluded his playing career at the University of Northern Colorado. McKinley's grandfather, Roland McKinley, also played football at Northern Colorado (then Colorado State College of Education) in the 1940s where he earned All-Conference honors as a defensive tackle in 1948. The younger McKinley is planning on studying secondary education-math at UW. |
