UW This Season: Michael Medina will join with fellow senior Julius Stinson to give the Wyoming Defense as talented a pair of cornerbacks in the Mountain West Conference in 2007. Medina had an outstanding year on the field in his first year starting in `06. In addition to his strong performance, he also became a team leader. In the summer of 2007, Medina was selected to and participated in the NCAA National Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla. The senior marketing major was one of only 330 NCAA student-athletes in the nation selected to participate out of an original 1,300 nominees. His talent, combined with his leadership and experience, will make him one of the defensive leaders for UW in `07.

2006: Medina's first year as a starting cornerback was impressive. He led Wyoming in passes defended and ranked eighth in the MWC. He broke up a team high seven passes and intercepted two more which tied him for second most on the team. Medina also ranked 10th on the squad in tackles (31), and he was credited with 3.5 tackles for losses. His best individual game in terms of tackles was five versus Air Force. His two interceptions came in wins over Utah State and San Diego State. For the second consecutive year, Medina earned Academic All-Mountain West Conference honors.

2005: Medina played in all 11 games during his sophomore season of 2005. He had two tackles on the season, and intercepted one pass versus UNLV. Medina provided the secondary with excellent depth, and was once again a valuable special teams contributor. He earned Academic All-Conference honors for the first time in his college career.

2004: Medina played in five games as a true freshman, including each of the last two games at New Mexico and versus UCLA in the Pioneer PureVision Las Vegas Bowl. He was credited with two tackles on the season. Earned his first varsity letter.

High School: As a high school senior, Medina was named to both the Rocky Mountain News and The Denver Post 2003 All-Colorado Football Teams for all classifications as a defensive back. He was also a First Team Class 5A selection by both papers. Medina was credited with making 40 tackles, intercepting four passes, forcing three fumbles and recovering two fumbles. An outstanding return specialist, he returned nine punts for 312 yards, and averaged 34.7 yards per return. He scored two touchdowns on returns. On offense, he caught 27 passes for 550 yards for a 20.4 average per reception, and scored eight TDs. He has run a 4.4 in the 40-yard dash. Medina also played basketball and ran track at Bear Creek High School. In track, he ran career bests of 10.68 in the 100 meters, 21.4 in the 200 meters and 48.5 in the 400 meters. In the 2003 Colorado State Track and Field Championships, Medina placed fifth in Class 5A in the 200 meters, and finished ninth in the 100 meters. He played for head football coach Tom Thenell at Bear Creek. He was also recruited by Air Force, Colorado and Colorado State.
