UW This Season: Mark Oliver is coming off a redshirt freshman season in 2007. He is one of a talented group of redshirt freshman linebackers, Oliver will challenge for playing time in his first year of college experience. He plays the MIKE position, which is the middle linebacker. Entering the fall of `08, Oliver listed No. 4 on the depth chart at middle linebacker. 2007: Redshirted. High School: Mark Oliver came to Wyoming with his high school teammate Keith Lewis. The two helped guide Mt. Carmel High School in Chicago, Ill., to two consecutive State Championship games before finishing as the state runner-up in Class 7A in 2005 and Class 8A in 2006. As a senior, Oliver earned All-State and All-Area honors from the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, Southtown and Northwestern Times. He was also named First Team All-State by the Illinois High School Sports Association, and was a First Team All-Chicago Catholic League selection. In the talent rich state of Illinois, Rivals.com ranked Oliver as the No. 28 overall recruit in the state of Illinois in its Illinois Top 30 Prospects as of January 2007. Rivals.com described Oliver as a "hard working, blue collar finisher." His senior season, he was credited with 105 tackles, including 11 sacks, and he blocked two punts. His junior campaign he made 96 tackles, had one interception and 16 sacks. A three-year starter in football, he was voted his team's Most Valuable Player as a senior, and was also selected a team captain. He played for head football coach Frank Lenti at Mt. Carmel High. Oliver was also recruited by Akron, Central Michigan, Colorado State, Hawaii, Indiana, Kansas State, Northern Illinois and Purdue.
