UW This Season: Jake Scott returns in 2009 after serving as Wyoming's starting place-kicker in 2008. He had a strong spring in 2009, and captured the No. 1 spot on the depth chart entering his senior season. Scott will bring three years of previous playing experience with him into the 2009 campaign. 2008: Scott successfully converted five of eight field-goal attempts in `09 (62.5 percent). He also made 13 of 14 point-after-touchdown attempts, and ranked second on the team in scoring with 28 points for the season. Scott earned Academic All-Mountain West Conference honors for the first time at Wyoming. 2007: Scott had a strong spring in `07, and was listed as the co-starter coming out of 2007 spring practice, but former Cowboy punter and place-kicker Billy Vinnedge handled both jobs in 2007. Scott appeared in two games during the 2007 season -- the season-opener versus Virginia and at Boise State in the third game of the season. Both of his appearances were on kickoff units. He didn't attempt any field goals or extra points during the 2007 season. 2006: Scott saw considerable action at the place-kicking position as a redshirt freshman in 2006. He was a perfect 12 of 12 in extra points, and converted two of four field goals on the season, hitting a 47-yarder versus Utah and a 32-yarder against San Diego State. Earned his first varsity letter. He originally walked on to the Cowboy Football program in the fall of 2005, and earned a scholarship in the spring of 2006. 2005: Redshirted. High School: While in high school, Scott lettered two years in football and two in rugby. He also played baseball and soccer. His senior season of 2004, he earned All-Metro honors from the Sacramento Bee. Both his junior and senior seasons, he was an All-Delta League selection at Jesuit High School in Carmichael, Calif. His Jesuit High team posted a 10-1 record and advanced to the first round of the state playoffs in 2004, and compiled a 9-3 record in 2003, advancing to the second round of the State Playoffs. He was ranked among the Top 25 place-kickers in the nation by Rivals.com as a high school senior. His rugby team won the State Championship his senior season with a 28-1 record. As a junior, his high school rugby squad posted a perfect 34-0 record and won nationals. An honor student all four years of high school, he was named a Scholar Athlete by the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame, and received a National Football Scholastic Award. He played for head football coach Dan Carmazzi. Scott was also recruited by Arizona, Arizona State, California, Colorado, Nevada, Northwestern, Oregon and Oregon State. Personal: Born Feb. 2, 1987, he is one of two sons of Paula and Jim Scott. Scott is majoring in kinesiology and health promotion at UW. |
