UW This Season: Wynel Seldon has already joined the group of the greatest running backs in University of Wyoming history. He enters his senior season with 2,035 career rushing yards, ranking him No. 8 on the UW all-time rushing list. He ran for 554 yards on 148 carries his junior season to rank second on the Cowboy squad and 12th in the Mountain West Conference. Seldon has rushed for over 500 yards each of his first three seasons at the college level. He will team with fellow senior Devin Moore to give the Pokes a veteran and talented tandem running the ball in 2008. 2007: Seldon not only ranked 12th in the MWC in rushing (46.2 yards per game), but he ranked No. 16 in scoring (eight touchdowns, 4.00 points per game) and No. 20 in total offense (46.2 yards per outing). He posted one 100-yard rushing game in `07, running for exactly 100 yards versus TCU. He also rushed for 92 yards at Ohio, had 85 against Utah State and ran for 74 versus Virginia. He led Wyoming in touchdowns, with eight. Twice in 2007 he scored two touchdowns in the same game -- versus Utah State and at Colorado State. 2006: Seldon followed up a record-setting redshirt freshman season with a consistent sophomore year in 2006. He led UW in rushing for the second consecutive season, gaining 610 yards on 156 carries in `06. He suffered a left quad bruise at TCU on Oct. 28, which caused him to miss the San Diego State game the following week and slowed him the final two games of the season at BYU and UNLV. In addition to leading Wyoming in rushing, Seldon also ranked No. 7 in the Mountain West Conference in rushing yards, averaging 55.5 per game, and ranked No. 100 in the NCAA. He was third on the Cowboy squad in both total offense (55.5 yards per game) and all-purpose yardage (65.8 ypg), and ranked 16th in the MWC in both of those categories. Seldon also caught 14 passes out of the backfield for 114 yards -- good for sixth on the team in receptions. He recorded one 100-yard rushing game during the `06 season, running for 112 yards on 18 carries in a 24-0 win over Colorado State. He also had a 99-yard performance in a season opening win versus Utah State. The sophomore started the first nine games of the season before suffering a left quad bruise in the ninth game of the season at TCU. 2005: Seldon had the best season of any freshman running back in Wyoming school history in 2005. He set a new Cowboy freshman rushing record, gaining 871 yards. Seldon started all 11 games at running back for the Cowboys as a redshirt freshman. In addition to leading the team in rushing and setting a new freshman rushing record, he also ranked second for the Cowboys in scoring with 11 touchdowns and 66 total points. Seldon caught 27 passes, as well, to rank third on the team. The San Diego, Calif., native averaged 79.2 yards per game to rank No. 5 in the Mountain West Conference and No. 59 in the country. He ranked 10th in the MWC in all-purpose yardage, averaging 97.2 yards per game rushing and receiving combined. His 6.0 point-per-game average ranked him 10th in scoring, and his 79.2 yards of total offense per game ranked him No. 13 in the conference. Earned his first varsity letter. Seldon first made his presence felt in 2005 spring drills. With Wyoming's two top returning rushers -- junior Ivan Harrison and senior Joseph Harris -- out of spring drills with injuries, Seldon was able to show the Cowboy coaching staff what he was capable of as a running back. 2004: Redshirted. High School: Seldon earned First Team All-District and First Team All-County honors for Plano East High School in Plano, Texas, his senior year of high school. With a combination of speed and power, he rushed for 1,250 yards and had 425 yards in receptions as a senior. He was an Honorable Mention All-Area selection. The Panthers finished 9-3 in Class 5A, Texas' largest classification. His team was District Runner-up, and lost in the Second Round of the Playoffs. Seldon, a team captain, also returned punts and kickoffs as a senior. He played for head coach John Crawford at Plano East. His first three years of high school, he played at Marian Catholic High School in San Diego, Calif. His coach at Marian Catholic was Mike David. Seldon also was recruited by Colorado State, Navy and Oregon State. Personal: Born Sept. 27, 1986, he is one of two children of Doreen and Wes Seldon. He is majoring in communications. |
