Smith is one of the young receivers that Wyoming will look to play a much larger role when it kicks off the 2011 season. Smith emerged as an effective receiver in the final three games of 2010 and now enters the fall as one of UW's starters. His combination of size and speed at the tight end position should pose a challenge for opposing defenses. 2010: Smith appeared in six games during his redshirt freshman campaign, starting the last three games of the season. He caught eight passes over the final three games for 175 yards and one touchdown. He had a season-high three catches for 59 yards and one touchdown at UNLV. He had two receptions for 58 yards at New Mexico, and caught three passes for 58 yards in UW's season-ending win over Colorado State. His longest grab of the season was 39 yards versus CSU. He averaged 21.9 yards per catch. 2009: Redshirted. High School: Smith played on a Booker T. Washington team that captured the Oklahoma 5A State Championship in 2008, with a 13-1 record. Smith earned 5A All-District 3 honors in 2008. He caught 27 passes for 444 yards and six touchdowns from his tight end position. His junior season he played wide receiver, catching 46 passes for 929 yards and 13 TDs. Smith was an outstanding two-sport athlete, earning three letters in basketball. Antwain Jimmerson was his head football coach at Booker T. Washington. Personal: Born Aug. 21, 1991, Smith is the youngest of two children of Helene and Terry Smith Sr. He has one older sister, Whitney. His father played college football at Northeastern State in Oklahoma and his uncle, Rod Smith, played football at Oklahoma State. Smith was also recruited by Kansas State. He is majoring in communications. |
