UW This Season: Darius Terry not only is the heir apparent to take over as Wyoming's starting running back in 2009, but he also is expected to be one of the team leaders when the `09 season kicks off. Terry's leadership was recognized when he was one of four Cowboys, and the only junior, to be voted a team captain at the conclusion of 2009 spring drills. The past two seasons he backed up former Cowboy standouts Devin Moore and Wynel Seldon. Moore set a new Wyoming career rushing record during his four years in Laramie, with 2,963 career rushing yards. Seldon ranks No. 3 in school history, with 2,672. 2008: Terry appeared in all 12 games. He had rushing attempts in six different games, and was a key contributor on numerous special teams. He ended the season with 16 carries for 43 yards. He also was credited with two tackles on special teams, and recovered one fumble versus North Dakota State. 2007: Terry played in 10 of 12 games on special teams during the 2007 season. He carried the ball only once during the season, against Utah, but had four tackles on special teams. 2006: Redshirted. High School: Terry came up I-25 from Colorado Springs, Colo., to join the Wyoming Football program. Terry started three years at running back and safety for Sierra High. He rushed for over 2,500 yards during his high school career. His senior season, he missed four games due to a broken jaw he suffered in the third game of the season. Showing his toughness, he returned to play in the final three games of the season. Despite missing three games, he rushed for 800 yards and scored eight TDs. Terry concluded his high school career with a 241-yard rushing performance in the season finale against Harrison High School. He was an Honorable Mention All-State selection in 2005, as well as earning Honorable Mention Academic All-State. His senior year, Terry was also elected a team captain. As a junior, he was an All-Conference and All-City honoree. An outstanding sprinter, he has posted a career best time of 22.0 seconds in the 200 meters. He was coached in high school by Joe Roskam. In addition to Wyoming, Terry was also recruited by Air Force and Utah. Personal: Born Jan. 12, 1988, he is the eldest of three children of Jennifer Baker and Mel Terry. His father played football for four years at Kansas Wesleyan. Terry is majoring in kinesiology and health promotion at UW. |
