UW This Season: Billy Vinnedge took over as Wyoming's starting punter in his first game as a Cowboy. He posted an outstanding first season competing at the NCAA Division I level, ranking No. 21 in the NCAA in punting as a junior in 2006. He should be one of the nation's and the Mountain West Conference's top punters in `07. He also will likely take over the regular kickoff duties for UW in his senior season. 2006: Vinnedge averaged 43.2 yards per punt in 2006, ranking No. 4 in the Mountain West Conference and No. 21 nationally. He placed 30 percent of his punts inside the opponents' 20-yard line (18 of 61 punts). He forced five fair catches by opponents and had seven other punts result in touchbacks. Vinnedge started all 12 games for the Cowboys. A consistent performer throughout his junior season, Vinnedge had several outstanding games. He averaged a season high 47.7 yards per punt at New Mexico, punting the ball seven times in the game, including three over 50 yards, one inside the UNM 20-yard line and forcing one fair catch. Against Utah, Vinnedge averaged 44.8 yards per punt, with three of his six punts landing inside the Ute 20-yard line. He also averaged 44.8 yards on six punts versus Boise State, including two inside Boise's 20-yard line and a season long 61-yarder. Vinnedge earned Academic All-MWC honors as a junior. Allan Hancock Junior College: Vinnedge was a two-year starter and two-year All-Western State Conference North Division selection at Allan Hancock Community College in Santa Maria, Calif. He also earned Honorable Mention All-America honors his sophomore season, and was an Academic All-Conference honoree. In 2005, Vinnedge ranked No. 5 among all California Community College punters, averaging 42.0 yards per punt. He placed 17 of his 33 punts inside the opponents' 20-yard line, with a long punt of 70 yards during the 2005 season. Allan Hancock CC posted a 7-4 record in '05 and played in the American Bowl. As a freshman, Vinnedge averaged 41.8 yards per punt, and placed 12 punts inside the opponents' 20-yard line, with a long punt of 65 yards. Allan Hancock recorded a 6-5 record in 2004 and participated in the Producers Dairy Bowl. He played for head coach Kris Dutra at Allan Hancock. Coming out of junior college, he was also recruited by TCU and USC. High School: An outstanding all-around athlete in high school, Vinnedge played at Arroyo Grande High School in Arroyo Grande, Calif. He earned 10 varsity letters in high school -- three each in football and baseball and four in soccer. Vinnedge was both a place-kicker and punter in football, played goalie in soccer and played multiple positions in baseball. His senior year of high school, Vinnedge was named the California State Kicker of the Year, averaging 48.0 yards per punt -- the third highest average in California High School history. He also hit 10 of 12 field goals as a senior, including career bests of 52 and 54 yards. He earned All-CIF and All-Los Angeles Times in football as a senior. Vinnedge was also named All-CIF, First Team All-County and First Team All-Conference in baseball as a senior. He hit .515, with 14 doubles and seven home runs, as well as posting a 7-2 record as a pitcher. Arroyo Grande posted a 24-5 record his senior season, and advanced to the semifinals of the state playoffs. As a goalie in soccer, he earned First Team All-League. Vinnedge was elected a team captain in all three sports his senior year. His high school football coach was Jon Huss.
