Moon Announces Cowboy 2001 Football Schedule
Feb. 7, 2001 LARAMIE, Wyo. -
A six-game home schedule including dates with Texas A&M and arch rivals Colorado State, and Brigham Young, and a road date with Kansas highlight Wyoming's 2001 football schedule announced Wednesday by UW Director of Athletics Lee Moon.
The Cowboys open the 2001 campaign with a pair of home dates, hosting Furman University (Greenville, South Carolina) on Sept. 1, at 2 p.m., and Texas A&M, for an ESPN2 Thursday night game on Sept. 6, at 8 p.m. Both institutions will be making their first appearances in War Memorial Stadium. The Kansas game will be Wyoming's first road trip of the season, Sept. 15. The fourth non-conference opponent will be Utah State. That game, at Logan, is scheduled for Sept. 22.
The Colorado State Border War is scheduled for Sept. 29, with Brigham Young coming to Laramie, Nov. 10. New Mexico (Oct. 6) and UNLV (Oct. 27) complete the six-game home offering.
"Any time we have Colorado State and Brigham Young coming to Laramie, it's a great home schedule," Moon said. "But the addition of Texas A&M makes this as good a slate of games in War Memorial, as we have had in a long time. This is a much more 'friendly' schedule for Vic (Head Coach Koenning) and the team in that we open at home. It's a very competitive schedule, but one that gives us a chance to be successful."
Game times, with the exception of Furman, and Texas A&M, and special days, such as Homecoming, are not included on the schedule, and will be announced at a later date, according to Moon.
"We're excited about the schedule," Head Coach Vic Koenning said. "Hosting a program the caliber of Texas A&M is a huge plus for our program. Our non-conference opponents are extremely competitive, and will prepare us for the difficulty of the Mountain West schedule. We're looking forward to the challenge." 2001 University of Wyoming Football Schedule
