Wyoming's John Wendling Named Second Team Academic All-American
Dec. 1, 2006 LARAMIE, Wyo. - Complete Team Listing in PDF Format University of Wyoming senior strong safety John Wendling has been named Second Team ESPN the Magazine Academic All-American as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). It is Wendling's first Academic All-America honor of his career. He has achieved a 3.43 cumulative grade-point-average in business administration while an undergraduate at the University of Wyoming. Wendling was one of only two Mountain West Conference football student-athletes to earn the honor this year. The other was Second Team selection Cody Kase, a linebacker from New Mexico who achieved a 4.01 cumulative gpa in general management. Wendling became eligible for the Academic All-America ballot after earning First Team All-District VII honors in mid-November. CoSIDA District VII includes the states of Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming; and the Canadian provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan
To be considered for the honor, an individual must have achieved a minimum 3.20 cumulative grade-point average, must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing and must have completed at least one full academic year at their institution. Nominees must have also participated in at least 50 percent of their team's games.
